Adv. Vedastus Kitureti is an International Maritime Lawyer attained a degree of master of laws in Maritime International law from International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) with a desire and passion to transposing international conventions into domestic law and during IMLI training, he gained the necessary understanding of the general principles of ocean governance.
He aspire further to be able to use the knowledge and expertise gained at IMLI to become a legal expert within the maritime field and therefore through out his career and experience, he has been giving encouragement, advocacy, raise awareness and doing research in the field of maritime in order to protect the oceans and work towards international and regional collaboration.
As a legal professional, he has been specializing in navigating both domestic laws and international maritime convention to discuss and resolve legal disputes on the complex laws, regulations and treaties governing activities on navigable waters including oceans, seas and rivers in order to handle all matter relating to maritime commerce, shipping, personal injuries at sea, cargo vessel ownership and environmental regulations.
In Tanzania, he has been dedicated and specialized in the legal regulations to governing ocean-going vessels, international shipping and marine activities. However he also participating in resolve disputes over cargo, charter parties and accidents to ensuring compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, environmental laws and maritime safety regulations.
Since established of Center for Maritime Safety and Security in Tanzania, He has been a prominent leader and considered a highly respected founder of all time and he has been nominated three times to become one of the honorary board member of the organization to build up its capacity and advise on international treaties such as Safety Of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and advocacy to ensure ships comply with regulations to prevent pollution and adhere to maritime safety and security standards.
.In order to ensuring environmental protection, he has been front line across Africa regional to support and manage legal issues related to marine pollution, hazardous waste dumping and sustainable shipping practices. Through out his presence and maritime activist he always influence on maritime insurance claims, personal injury cases for seafarers and liability during accidents or salvage operations.
He was awarded by IMLI a certificate of Maritime Boundaries Dispute Settlement Under UNCLOS Framework by identify the key issues and legal problem areas in the jurisdiction, coordination and mandate of MARADS in the URT and highlight measures that URT can take into consideration to address the legal gaps and ensure the clear jurisdiction, mandate and operation of each maritime administration so as URT to fully implement international conventions to reduce the number of findings observed during the IMSAS auditing.
