OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF YOUTH VOLUNTEERING PROGRAMS IN THE MARITIME FIELD

Centre for Maritime Safety and Security in Tanzania will officially launching Youth Volunteering Program which will provide numerous platform for youth maritime elite to be competitive by gaining experience, build networks, and make a tangible difference in their maritime field. The upcoming programs will offer training, skills, and experience to promote job opportunities within maritime environment.

The programs will bridges the gap between academic learning and professional practice, providing a vital talent pipeline for an industry facing labor shortages. It will simultaneously empower young people through skill acquisition and drives critical environmental stewardship. CMSS as youth-led organization will initiate fund to support program which will fostering a maritime real life experience in the following aspects:

  1. Professional and Career development
  2. Environment and Scientific impact
  3. Personal skill building
  4. Personal social growth

The program will connecting Tanzanian maritime youth with Comoros to involve leveraging enhanced sea transport, promoting bilateral, blue economy initiatives, and utilizing vocational training exchanges. Through a key opportunities include the Comoros maritime corridor project, Swahili language cooperation, and developing joint fishing/trade ventures, Centre for Maritime Safety and Security in Tanzania will recruiting Maritime youth volunteers to collaborate and team up to fostering:

  1. Global Goals Sustainable Development through Youth engagement as a core component of the UN Ocean Decade and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), ensuring the next generation is equipped to manage ocean resources sustainably.
  2. Educational Exchange which promote collaboration between maritime education institutions in Tanzania and Comoros to share expertise and build capacity in seafarer training.
  3. Blue Economy and Vocational Training to engage with initiatives targeting youth aged 18-35 for vocational training in fisheries, aquaculture, and maritime safety and security, as highlighted in the Adaptation Fund’s PROPOSAL FOR COMOROS.

To furthermore CMSS will fund and support youth who wish to volunteering and exploring the adventure of Marine conservation in Tanzania. The Best Marine Conservation Volunteer programs will involve a blend of community-led initiatives, government-managed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and research-based protection of biodiversity.

Key actions of the program will include patrolling, restoring habitats (mangroves, reefs), promoting sustainable livelihoods (seaweed farming), reducing plastic pollution, and enforcing regulations against destructive fishing which in return, the program will empower local communities to manage resources through Beach Management Units (BMUs) and Community-Managed Areas.

Skills and experience which will be shared through this program will support alternative income sources like sustainable seaweed farming, beekeeping, and eco-tourism to reduce reliance on overfishing. We would like to welcome our young maritime volunteers whose passion and energy will ensuring the future of our oceans is in capable, caring hands. Seeing young people step up to protect our waterways will inspires us all and we are deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and hard work our youth volunteers which will bring to our maritime programs, making a tangible difference for our blue planet.
